Karrion Kross has revealed a behind-the-scenes story from earlier this year, explaining how a promo he believed was approved by creative actually caused some WWE higher-ups to become “very upset” because they thought it was a legitimate shoot.
Karrion Kross Says WWE Higher-Ups Were “Offended”
Speaking on The Ariel Helwani Show, Kross discussed the fallout from a fiery promo he cut following WrestleMania 41. He explained that despite his efforts to let people backstage know it was a work, the message didn’t get to everyone, including some executives.
“I let everybody know, let’s make sure this is somewhat protected from the audience, but let everyone know internally that this is a work… Sure enough, not everybody knew that that was a work,” Kross said. “People were very upset with it because they thought it was real. We see people, specifically, like higher-ups, I’ll say higher-ups. They were offended.”
A Miscommunication With Triple H
Kross detailed the communication breakdown, stating he was under the impression he was cleared to do something “improvisationally,” but the message was not relayed up the chain of command. This led to a situation where he had to speak with Paul “Triple H” Levesque directly to clear the air.
“I one day I waited for Hunter outside the production meeting. Once was actually brought to my attention that he was not okay with it, and I explained everything to him. No one told him anything,” Kross recalled. “So as far as I know, at that point, we were good, but everyone was under the impression, a lot of people like, I just lost my mind. I was just trying to do my job. That’s my job. That day was to make people believe like any other day.”
As Kross confirmed in the same interview, his WWE contract expired on August 10 after he did not accept a last-minute renewal offer from the company.
