Kevin Nash Explains Why Hulk Hogan’s Heel Turn Has More Heat Than John Cena’s Turn

WWE Hall of Famer Kevin Nash, a pivotal figure in Hulk Hogan’s historic 1996 heel turn that formed the New World Order (nWo), recently compared that moment to John Cena’s shocking heel turn earlier this year.

Speaking on his “Kliq This” podcast, Nash argued that Cena’s current situation lacks the same long-term gravity due to its built-in endpoint. Nash stated that Cena’s ongoing farewell tour fundamentally changes the audience perception compared to when Hogan turned. “Yeah. This Cena turn has an expiration date, so I think that changes a lot,” Nash explained.

“He stands there and goes, ‘You have me for 27 more appearances and then it’s over with.’ It doesn’t have the same feel of, ‘I’m going to make your lives miserable forever.'” He contrasted this with the immediate and vehement rejection Hogan faced upon aligning with The Outsiders, emphasizing that fans desperately wanted Hogan gone, not anticipating an eventual redemption arc within months. “Nobody the next night was saying, ‘Come back Hulk,’” Nash recalled.
