On the latest episode of his Kliq This podcast, WWE Hall of Famer Kevin Nash recounted the story of the infamous backstage fight between “Ravishing” Rick Rude and The Ultimate Warrior, as told to him directly by Rude. Nash explained that the physical altercation stemmed from Warrior’s refusal to lose a match to Rude.
Nash, who became close with Rude when he joined WCW, shared Rude’s version of the events. “Rick told me his version of it,” he said. “I want to think they were going into Survivor Series or SummerSlam, because Rude left shortly after that and joined us.”
The conflict came about when Warrior allegedly dismissed Rude’s status, claiming he was not a worthy opponent to be put over. “Warrior said that Rude wasn’t worthy of him to put over,” Nash stated. This led to a direct physical confrontation, with Rude taking matters into his own hands. “And fucking Rick said, ‘Okay, well, let me just beat the dog fuck out of you.’”
Nash concluded the story with what he recalled as Rude’s final message to Warrior after the fight: “‘Maybe you didn’t realize how unworthy you were.’”
The backstage fight between Rick Rude and The Ultimate Warrior reportedly occurred in 1990 and is one of the most legendary stories from that era. Rude, who was the Intercontinental Champion at the time, had a falling out with WWE management over his pay and creative direction, leading to his departure from the company shortly after the incident with Warrior.
