Kevin Owens has sent the WWE fans into speculation mode with a cryptic social media post that has many connecting him to the mysterious caller who has been feeding Randy Orton instructions on recent episodes of SmackDown.
The former Universal Champion posted footage on X of himself playing with a Cody Rhodes action figure while Rhodes’ entrance theme played in the background. The timing of the post, coming in the thick of the Rhodes versus Orton feud heading into WrestleMania 42, immediately set off a wave of fan theories about what it could mean for the ongoing storyline.
The connection to Orton’s mystery caller feels natural for several reasons. Before being sidelined with an injury, Owens was involved in a rivalry with Orton and Rhodes. Owens was also a central figure in storylines involving both Rhodes and Orton before stepping away from a full-time television schedule. For the past several weeks on SmackDown, Orton has been receiving instructions from an unidentified caller whose voice has not been revealed.
Owens has not been entirely absent from WWE TV during his time away, making appearances in YouTube programming, but he has not returned to regular television and has offered no public timeline for when that changes. Owens had neck surgery less than a year ago and is not expected to be back in action any time soon. It’s likely Owens was just having some fun, but it certainly has some people talking.
WWE has not officially confirmed Owens’ return date, his storyline involvement, or whether he is connected to the mystery caller angle in any capacity. Rhodes defends the Undisputed WWE Championship against Orton in the Night 1 main event of WrestleMania 42 on April 18 at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas, Nevada.
