Kevin Owens explains why Nigel McGuinness hasn’t returned to the ring, comments on his time in ROH

WWE Universal Champion Kevin Owens appeared on Wednesday’s episode of Talking Jericho. During the podcast, Owens talked about his favorite indy promotions. He noted that he has two indy promotions that he misses but noted that he wouldn’t want to go back to the indy scene. He admitted that he had a good run on the indy scene, but when he left to join WWE he was over it. He misses Pro Wrestling Guerrilla in Southern California. He noted that people think that ROH helped him get into WWE, but he thinks being in PWG was just as important. He misses working in AIW, which is in Cleveland and he noted that he worked there maybe one or two years before coming to WWE. He brought up how hard it is to get tickets to PWG shows because there are only 450 tickets available and that they sell out in one minute. He brought up that the show is always sold out and that sometimes celebrities can’t even get into the show because they don’t have enough tickets. He said that he hears from people that PWG should expand to a bigger building but noted that Super Dragon, who is a part owner of PWG, doesn’t want to expand and wants to keep the show in the building that it’s at now. He said that their business model has always been DVD’s and that they don’t want to get bigger because Dragon likes the way things are now because it’s part of the charm.

When asked how ROH prepared him for his career in WWE, he noted that WWE has NXT, which provides talent for the main roster but he thinks that ROH also prepares talent for the WWE main roster. He knew as a young wrestler that you had to go to ROH to make it to WWE. He noted that both Daniel Bryan and Nigel McGuinness worked in ROH. Bryan signed with WWE, but McGuinness didn’t because of medical reasons. He said that he talks to McGuinness and tells him that he should wrestle again but McGuinness won’t do it because he has made peace with it when he couldn’t sign with the company as a wrestler.
