WWE Universal Champion Kevin Owens appeared on ESPN’s SportsCenter on Wednesday to talk to Jonathan Coachman about WWE.
Coachman asked him about headlining Clash of Champions; Owens said that it’s surreal to be on a WWE PPV because he has been watching since he was eleven. Owens said that it was one of his goals to main event a WWE PPV, and his other goal was to be WWE Champion and to accomplish both of those goals felt pretty good.
When asked about Triple H helping him win the WWE Universal Title on RAW a few week’s ago, Owens thought that Triple H knew how good he is and noted that there was a lot of fans happy to see him win the title. Owens added that a lot of fans have been waiting on Triple H turning on Seth Rollins for a long time and was glad he chose him.
When asked about the locker room reaction to his title win, Owens thought that it left people in a lot of disbelief. Owens said that it was a shocking moment because he won the title and Triple H returned to cost Rollins the match. One talent said that he couldn’t believe that Owens was WWE Champion. Owens noted that he signed with WWE two years ago, and now he is WWE Champion. Owens believes that being WWE Champion is where he belongs.
Coachman asked him about his son’s reaction to him winning the title; Owens stated that to share the moment with his family was special for him. He gave a lot of credit to his wife for always believing in him. Owens said that his son is proud of him, and that means the world to him.
When asked about naming his son after the late great Owen Hart, Owens said that Hart looked like he was always having a blast when competing. When Hart passed away, Owens heard how such a good guy he was, and he thought to himself when his wife got pregnant; he wanted to name his son after Hart. Owens said it was a special thing to be able to name their son after Hart.
Coachman brought up injuries in WWE and Finn Balor’s injury; Owens explained that he tries not to think about injuries and tries not to worry about it so he can give it all he has and throws caution to the wind when wrestling. Owens said that injuries are just part of the job and thought it sucked that Balor was injured before he was able to defend the title.
Coachman asked him who he wants to wrestle; Owens said that they are several guys he wants to wrestle. Owens named Apollo Crews and Baron Corbin. Owens thinks that he will be able to wrestle both of them sometime in his career.
Finally, he was asked about who he wants to wrestle at WrestleMania 33 in Orlando. “I want Brock Lesnar at WrestleMania. It’s as simple as that.”
Owens thanked ESPN for having him on the show, and this wrapped up the segment.
