Kevin Owens issues an apology, dream team after Smackdown, special guest at Smackdown, Battleground card

Kevin Owens issued an apology to everyone that watched this week’s episode of Talking Smack. So, what was he apologizing for? Well, it’s because he was not on this week. Owens’ Twitter account is among my favorite accounts because he sticks to being a prickly heel even when he’s not on TV. His apology (note the sarcasm) is below:

Here are some other WWE news and notes:

Yes, there was a reference to the Paige and Xavier Woods sex tape on Smackdown Live. WWE has edited it off their YouTube channel but you can see the unedited clip by clicking here.

John Cena and Shinsuke Nakamura teamed up (I believe this is the first time they’ve teamed up) after Smackdown/205 Live went off the air. Cena and Nakamura took on Rusev and Baron Corbin. Earlier on the show, they set up a Flag match between Cena and Rusev that will take place at the Battleground pay-per-view.

Charlotte Flair defeated Natalya in a dark match that took place before Smackdown Live. It’s not common to see top talent in a dark match before the show but I wouldn’t read too much into that because they probably wanted to get them on the show but the live broadcast was already loaded.

Lilian Garcia was the special guest at Smackdown Live. Before the live broadcast, she sung the National Anthem before WWE kicked off the July 4th edition of Smackdown Live. As usual, she did an amazing job. Listen to her sing in the video below:

Tickets are still available for WWE Battleground on 7/23. The whos will take place at the Wells Fargo Arena in Philadelphia. Here are the matches that they have announced so far:

WWE Championship – Punjabi Prison Match
Jinder Mahal (Champion) vs. Randy Orton

Smackdown Tag Team Championship
The Usos (Champions) vs. The New Day

Flag Match
John Cena vs. Rusev

United States Championship
Kevin Owens (Champion) vs. AJ Styles

Also, it looks like they will eventually announce that Tamina will challenge for the Smackdown Women’s Championship. On this week’s Talking Smack, Naomi said that she is not close with Tamina anymore and is not sure if there is jealousy coming from her. Daniel Bryan said that he would like to see that match.

It also looks like they are building towards a split between Zack Ryder and Mojo Rawley, a match between Shinsuke Nakamura and Baron Corbin, and probably a match between Mike Kanellis and Sami Zayn.
