Kevin Owens is a fanboy living his dream. He worked hard his entire career to make himself the best and constantly overcame one adversity after another to not only become a Universal Champion but solidify himself as a top name in WWE.
KO recently spoke to E&C’s Pod Of Awesomeness where he discussed how special of an event working with Vince McMahon was for him and he put it into a little bit more perspective as well.
“It felt like a huge deal,” Owens said. “And at the time like, even doing it — you know? I knew something was going to happen with Vince a couple of days beforehand, I wasn’t sure what it was exactly until we ironed everything out but when it happened, when I actually went through with it — it was just so surreal.”
“You know that’s the thing about me and I said it in interviews and I told a lot of people that I never lost — I never stopped being a fan of WWE. You know I’ve been a huge fan since I was eleven-years-old and that never stopped. Even when I started on Raw — not even when I started on Raw, even my first night in NXT — right? I was the first match on that show, the TakeOver special. I was right next to that little Gorilla Position they have there at Full Sail University and you know there’s a TV right there that you know, plays the show live obviously and the opening graphics with the ‘then, now, forever’ and all the faces that flash like Cena and you guys (Edge and Christian), and Shawn, and Bret, and Taker and all those guys as the WWE logo comes into frame, I was watching that and then the next thing and as soon as it ends it goes to a video package for the show and the first face I saw was me. And I got insane goosebumps and I remember saying ‘holy sh-t, this is actually happening.'”
“You know what I mean? It’s been fifteen years. I was eleven-years-old when I was hoping this would happen one day and the same thing happened when I showed up on Raw to do the thing with Cena. I remember after it happened I went back to my hotel and I walked in the elevator and the elevator, the walls were mirrors. And I just walked up to the wall and as the elevator was going down I kept staring at myself in the mirror thinking, ‘I can’t believe this is actually happening.'”
Kevin never lost the fact he’s still a huge fan of WWE. KO admitted it blows his mind when Shawn Michaels comes around, “he’s the reason I decided to be a wrestler in the first place,” KO said. He’s still such a fan of WWE and to get a chance to do the headbutt spot with Vince McMahon was an incredibly special experience.
