Former WWE Universal Champion Kevin Owens is making the media rounds and recently spoke with TheWrap.com. During the interview, Owens commented on his recent heel turn against the New Day that saw him attack Xavier Woods and WWE Champion Kofi Kingston.
This is where Owens was critical of how early the turn was done by WWE officials and thinks that they could’ve played out this part of the storyline for a bit longer.
This was after Big E went down with an injury and Owens filling in for him on television to work six-man tag team contests. A few weeks ago, Owens turned heel after returning to television earlier this year while portraying a babyface character.
“I wish I would have been able to stay on the other side of the fence a little longer, to be honest. I don’t think anybody’s really seen me as a babyface ever, or, like, the way that I envision myself being. I don’t think people have any idea what I can do on the other side. But, you know, what’s done is done. If I’m gonna speak candidly about it, I would have done it differently. I would have turned on Kofi differently at a different time. I ended up being wrong because once I did it, I knew that was the right time and place.”
“You knew there was gonna be some sort of swerve but there’s no way– I really don’t think people expected it to be that quick.”
Owens will challenge Kofi Kingston for the WWE Title at the Money In The Bank pay-per-view event on Sunday, May 19, 2019 in Hartford, CT at the XL Center.
