Kofi Kingston is officially the longest reigning WWE Tag Team Champion in history. Earlier this week, WWE announced that Kingston surpassed Billy Gunn for most days reigning as a WWE Tag Team Champion. The 37-year-old now has over 954 days reigning as a Tag Team Champion.
Kingston is currently a member of current SmackDown Live Tag Team Champions, The New Day, along with Xavier Woods and Big E. Kingston has won titles with various other partners before, including other reigns with The New Day, R-Truth, Evan Bourne, and CM Punk.
The former Intercontinental Champion spoke to ESPN on the historic accomplishment. Kingston said that never in his wildest dreams did he ever think he’d be WWE’s longest reigning Tag Team Champion of all time. He was then asked about partnering with CM Punk.
After his time teaming with Kingston, Punk would evolve into a several time WWE World Champion and one of the company’s biggest stars of all time. Unfortunately, a falling out with the company led to his walking out and eventual career switch into the worlds of mixed martial arts (MMA), acting, and comic book writing. Kingston said he learned so much working with Punk, including what it takes to be a star.
