On the latest episode of “Keeping It 100” with Konnan, there was an interesting tidbit about the time when Konnan was going to have a match with Hulk Hogan in WCW. Keep in mind that Konnan was a major star in Mexico and considered to be a star on the level of Hulk Hogan due to his mainstream exposure and his status as the top babyface in AAA.
Konnan talking about the match he was going to have against Hulk Hogan in WCW: “When I first came in, one of the things that Kevin Sullivan told me, which is why there is an old picture you will see every now and then where we are holding a belt and we are both pointing at each other. We were going to have a match in the United States and a match in Mexico. This was never told to me, but I would like to get Kevin Sullivan on the show and asked him. They put the U.S. championship on me real quick. They pushed me really fast really quick and I think they found out real quick that this guy doesn’t even know how to wrestle American style. He only knows how to wrestle Mexican style. Politicking was always part of the game.”
The match would have likely drawn a big gate and big numbers on pay-per-view for WCW if it was promoted correctly. During the podcast, Zack Ryder is on as the guest and he talks about his WWE release and details what happened in 2011 when he thought he was going to feud with John Cena. Disco Inferno is on and he discussed his pitch to the Dark Side of the Ring producers on Hardbody Harrison.
