WWE Hall of Famer Kurt Angle did a brief interview with Sports Illustrated following WrestleMania 36.
McIntyre had his crowning moment when he dethroned WWE Champion Brock Lesnar at WrestleMania 36 – Night 2 in Orlando, Florida at the WWE Performance Center on Sunday night.
According to Angle, McIntyre becoming the top guy in the company on the Raw brand is good as fans have somebody new in a main event role. He also thinks that WWE needs to capitalize on McIntyre being the WWE Champion.
“We finally have somebody new in the main event, and that’s Drew McIntyre,” said Angle. “He is the breath of fresh air for WWE. Now you don’t need to continuously keep going back to Roman, Cena, and Brock. Drew is the new guy, and he needs to excel this year.”
Angle has a history with McIntyre and has been one of his biggest supporters for years. They’ve wrestled under the TNA Wrestling banner. In fact, Angle had his final match in the promotion with McIntyre.
Angle pointed out how he knew if WWE got him under contract again, McIntyre’s career would take off.
Angle also talked about their time in TNA, working a match with McIntyre in 2018 on an episode of Raw, and more. You can check out the full interview here.
