Last week, I exclusively reported that Kurt Angle would be offered a new contract to return to WWE after being released in April during the budget cuts.
During an interview with CBR.com, Angle confirmed that he was offered a deal but it was for a role as Matt Riddle’s manager.
Angle said, “WWE has offered me a job to manage him. Unfortunately, I turned it down due to a few different reasons, but I would have loved to manage him. It just wasn’t the right time.”
Angle appeared on last week’s episode of NXT as the special referee for Matt Riddle’s match against Timothy Thatcher. Angle was also on SmackDown to announce that Riddle would be moving to the blue brand
For what it’s worth, Angle’s talks with WWE are not a dead issue and WWE management still believes a deal can be worked out. “If they haven’t signed him already then they will make an offer to him soon. Vince doesn’t want to lose him to AEW,” a WWE source told me last week.
Angle is under a non-compete until July. I was also told that some furloughed producers are also expected to be brought back in the next few weeks.
