A public dispute has erupted between Becky Lynch and former WWE talent Lacey Evans (Macey Estrella), following Lynch’s recent negative comments about their 2019 storyline. Evans, who departed WWE in 2023, posted an aggressive response on social media, making accusations of unprofessional conduct by Lynch. A note on this is that Lynch was not criticizing Evans but she was criticizing the booking for the angle.
As previously noted, Becky Lynch appeared on Bert Kreischer’s Something’s Burning podcast and offered her assessment of the 2019 angle. Following the dissemination of Lynch’s podcast comments, Lacey Evans (Macey Estrella), who is no longer with WWE and is now focused on family, OnlyFans, and running a bakery, posted a multi-part response on X.
Evans’ response included direct accusations of backstage unprofessionalism and mocking Lynch’s skills and background.
Her initial post on X stated: “the only person who *shoot cried more than you was the baby I had on my hip while taking all the opportunities… if/when I come back…..you will STILL do nothing but gently shake my hand and say ‘how cute my little family is’ backstage”.
Evans specifically accused Lynch of “crying for two hours” prior to an episode of Raw where Lynch allegedly “no-sell[ed] her Women’s Right finisher”.
Evans continued by questioning Lynch’s wrestling background and suggesting her own in-ring learning was faster. She wrote: “I legit learned that move in 2 mins. Between homeschooling my kid and making my husbands plate. Something #bustedItOutOnTheEndiesBecky could never do”.
Lynch’s Critique of the Booking
The reason the situation was reignited was due to comments made by Becky Lynch, who, while discussing her booking after WrestleMania, publicly offered her assessment of the feud.
Lynch stated that following her major WrestleMania accomplishment, she was immediately paired with a wrestler who lacked established credibility.
Lynch’s quote regarding the angle was: “I start working with Lacey Evans right out the gate [after WrestleMania 35]. God bless her, but she wasn’t, you know… For me to go from the main event of WrestleMania to somebody who hadn’t done anything was terrible”.
Context of the On-Screen Feud
The initial program between Lynch and Evans took place in mid-2019, immediately after Lynch headlined WrestleMania 35, becoming the first woman to do so.
During this period, Lynch, as Raw Women’s Champion, defended her title against Evans, who had recently debuted on the main roster from NXT. Matches between the two included a title defense for Lynch at Money in the Bank and a mixed tag team match at Stomping Grounds where Lynch and Seth Rollins defeated Evans and Baron Corbin. The storyline received criticism at the time for being mismatched and potentially hindering Lynch’s momentum due to Evans’ relative inexperience. Evans’ push was widely viewed as favored by Vince McMahon but was short-lived.
Reaction from Fans and Industry
The public argument between Lynch and Evans has elicited varied reactions across social media platforms.
Fan reaction is split. Some fans have defended Lynch, viewing her original comment as a critique of WWE’s creative direction rather than a personal attack. Conversely, other fans support Evans, characterizing Lynch as egotistical for criticizing a former colleague years later. It is worth nothing again that Lynch was criticizing the booking and not Evans herself.
