Lana came into WWE as the Ravishing Russian alongside her then-boyfriend Alexander Rusev. The couple is now married and Alexander is just Rusev. But where he lost his first name, The Lion Of Bulgaria picked up a holiday celebrated every day in his honor.
Lana was separated from Rusev after they jumped to SmackDown Live last year but it looks like since Tamina Snuka’s injury there was nothing to do with Lana on television. So now she’s back after a little hiatus with a slightly different persona.
The fact is Lana isn’t actually Russian although she did spend time there as a child. WWE has seemed to have no issue showing Lana as CJ on Total Divas where she has no accent at all except for a very American one. Now it looks like with her new gimmick she’s slowly transitioning out of her Russain accent and it’s working well to seamlessly change her right in front of our eyes. Every time she appears the accent seems to be less prominent until it could eventually disappear altogether.
Now Lana has a chance to be in the Money In The Bank ladder match. What makes this interesting is the fact she’s facing Billie Kay. While the IIconics could use a representative in the MITB match, Lana’s new character could use this spotlight as well.
Only time will tell which direction WWE takes with Lana at this point but it looks like they’re doing something and it could lead to the first-ever Mr. and Mrs. Money In The Bank if all goes according to Lana and Rusev’s plan.
