Last minute changes at NXT Takeover: Toronto, reason why Samoa Joe beat Shinsuke Nakamura

In the latest Wrestling Observer newsletter, Dave Meltzer is reporting that several of the match finishes at NXT Takeover: Toronto that were changed at the last minute. Also, they wanted to keep the Samoa Joe vs. Shinsuke Nakamura program alive so that is why they did the title switch. The feeling was that there wouldn't be any steam left in the program if Nakamura won again.

It would make sense for Nakamura to regain the title because it's looking like Bobby Roode is being groomed for the NXT Championship and it wouldn't make sense for heel Roode against heel Joe. If they do put the title back on Nakamura then it would likely be at the show being taped in Osaka, Japan. They will be airing that match (and possibly other matches) on NXT TV in a couple of weeks.

As of a couple of weeks ago, here is the card for the show in Osaka:

The Revival vs. Tino Sabbatelli and Riddick Moss. That was originally advertised for the NXT Tag Team Championship but that has obviously changed since The Revival dropped the titles last Saturday. Akira Tozawa and Tajiri will be facing Johnny Gargano and Tommaso Ciampa. Tozawa is headed to the main roster soon. Also, they are advertising Bobby Roode vs. Tye Dillinger vs. Elias Samson and a tag team match between Liv Morgan and Aliyah against Billie Kay and Peyton Royce. Asuka, Ember Moon and TM61 are also advertised for the show.
