WWE Hall of Famer Kurt Angle was furloughed by WWE back in April as part of a mass talent and staff firings due to budget cuts.
Since his retirement last year, Angle had been a backstage producer to help talent with their matches on the Raw brand. With WWE bringing back Angle to be the special guest referee for Matt Riddle vs. Timothy Thatcher in a Cage Fight on Wednesday’s episode of NXT, there’s been some speculation as to what his status is with the company.
Dave Meltzer reported in the latest edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter that he hasn’t heard anything regarding Angle and whether he has signed a new deal.
It was noted that Meltzer was told Angle is still being paid through mid-July like the rest of the people on main roster contracts that were released. This is a situation that is just like Drake Maveric’s status as he is working for the company although he was released.
The same goes for planning to use Sarah Logan at one point. Despite being let go, WWE can use talent until their non-compete clause expires.
In a related note, the pro wrestling legend took to Facebook to show off a new photo and wrote in the caption, “My wife digs the chest hair. Retirement from wrestling is good. On to the next chapter. #itstrue.”
