AJ Lee On Her WWE Return Match: “I Guess I Still Got It”

Following her in-ring return at WWE Wrestlepalooza, AJ Lee has taken to social media to share her thoughts on the emotional experience. In a heartfelt post on her Instagram account, the former Divas Champion described her comeback as a “chaotic fairytale” and shared her gratitude to her colleagues, her husband, and her fans for their support during her first match in over a decade.

Lee teamed with her husband, CM Punk, at the premium live event to defeat the duo of Seth Rollins and Becky Lynch, with Lee securing the victory by making Lynch submit.“A chaotic fairytale so far. I’m proud of myself for being scared but doing it anyway, after ten years of retirement, on one month’s notice. I guess I still got it,” Lee wrote.

She went on to thank those who helped her through the process, using their real names. “I’m so grateful to Rebecca, Colby, Jess, TJ, and my hot husband Phil for taking such good care of me. And Larry for sharing his dressing room. I’m feeling all the love and support from you guys, my wonderful weirdos, it means the world.”

The people she mentioned are her opponents, Becky Lynch (Rebecca Quin) and Seth Rollins (Colby Lopez), as well as her husband CM Punk (Phil Brooks) and veteran WWE producer TJ Wilson (Tyson Kidd), who is highly regarded for his work with the women’s division.

Lee’s comment about having only “one month’s notice” highlights how quickly her return came together. She made her surprise comeback to the company on the September 5 episode of SmackDown to even the odds in Punk’s heated rivalry with Rollins and Lynch, setting the stage for the mixed tag team match at Wrestlepalooza. The bout marked her first time competing since she retired from professional wrestling in 2015, a decision she made due to injuries after a highly successful and influential career.

This successful return is reportedly not a one-off appearance for the 38-year-old star. A recent report from Fightful Select noted that the internal reaction to her performance at Wrestlepalooza was very positive and that Lee signed a new contract upon her return to WWE.
