AJ Lee On Her WWE Return: “This Run Is For You, My Wonderful Weirdos”

Three days after her shocking return to WWE, former three-time Divas Champion AJ Lee has broken her silence. In her first social media post since her comeback on Friday Night SmackDown, Lee sent a heartfelt message to her dedicated fanbase, dedicating her new run to them. The post is the first time Lee has publicly addressed her decision to step back into a WWE ring after a decade-long retirement.

Lee officially returned to the company in the closing moments of the September 5th episode of SmackDown from her and her husband’s hometown of Chicago. During an in-ring confrontation between CM Punk and Becky Lynch, Lee’s iconic music hit, and she stormed the ring to even the odds for her husband, taking out Lynch and standing tall with Punk as the show went off the air.

In a post on her X account, Lee directly addressed her loyal fanbase. “You’ve had my back for a decade. This run is for you, my wonderful weirdos,” she wrote. Following her on-screen return, WWE Chief Content Officer Paul “Triple H” Levesque posted a video of Lee officially signing a new WWE contract, confirming that her comeback is not a one-off. Reports have indicated that there is a lot of excitement backstage among the talent, particularly the women’s locker room, many of whom grew up idolizing Lee and are eager for the opportunity to work with her.

Lee’s return is the direct result of the ongoing rivalry between CM Punk and the husband-and-wife duo of World Heavyweight Champion Seth Rollins and Women’s Intercontinental Champion Becky Lynch. Lynch’s interference at the Clash in Paris premium live event, which cost Punk the championship, was the reason for Lee’s comeback.

It is now expected that a mixed tag team match pitting the two couples against each other will be made official soon for the upcoming Wrestlepalooza premium live event on September 20. Lee is scheduled to appear on tonight’s episode of Monday Night Raw for the first time in over a decade to continue the storyline.
