BeltTalk.com’s Da Belt Guy (dvizzle on Reddit) is reporting that The Rock N’ Roll Express will be inducted into the 2017 WWE Hall Of Fame. I think most, if not all fans, would agree that this is a well-deserved honor for Ricky Morton and Robert Gibson. I should note that Da Belt Guy has a good track record and has broken scoops in the past.
The Rock N’ Roll Express were one of the most beloved babyface acts in the 1980’s. Fans would remember them best from their run in Jim Crockett Promotions where they feuded with the Four Horsemen. Unfortunately for them, their momentum stalled when Turner Broadcasting purchased WCW in 1988 and Jim Herd was put in charge. Morton and Gibson were split up and the team was never able to reach the same heights as they did during their peak. They got back together in Smoky Mountain Wrestling and they had brief runs with the World Wrestling Federation. Their last national TV exposure was on the Delete or Decay episode of Impact Wrestling that took place on Matt Hardy’s compound a few weeks ago.
I guess this means that the Natural Disasters will not be inducted this year since WWE typically likes to induct one team per year. Kurt Angle is the only name that has been announced. They had to get his name out there ahead of tickets going on sale. As we get closer to WrestleMania, WWE will make more announcements. Other names heavily rumored for this year include “Ravishing” Rick Rude, Beth Phoenix, Diamond Dallas Page, and Teddy Long.
