Lex Luger shared an inspiring photo on social media showing him standing on a ladder while trimming a Christmas tree, a milestone he says he has not been able to achieve in nearly two decades.
“A picture is worth a thousand words!! Trimming our tree. Haven’t been able to do this for almost 2 decades. Thanks to my good friend @RealDDP @DDPYoga. Thank you Jesus!!!” Luger wrote.
Why The Moment Is Significant
The photo is a significant update on Luger’s long recovery from a health crisis that began in October 2007. The “almost 2 decades” timeframe Luger mentioned refers to a spinal stroke he suffered after a nerve impingement in his neck occurred on an airplane.
The “freak accident” resulted in massive swelling and left Luger paralyzed from the neck down. For many years, the former WCW World Heavyweight Champion was reliant on a wheelchair and described as being “close to being a quadriplegic”.
In his post, Luger tagged Diamond Dallas Page and DDP Yoga. Luger has been working with DDP for years to regain his strength and mobility, with DDP sharing updates on his progress. While Luger has been able to stand unassisted in recent years, the ability to stand on a ladder demonstrates a new level of balance and strength in his recovery from paralysis.
