When Ruby Riott (she’s got two t’s in her name now) debuted on the main roster she brought some friends with her. Liv Morgan and Sarah Logan were by her side and assisted in demolishing any female they came across.
This week on SmackDown Live, these three fierce females continued their destructive ways by taking out Charlotte and Naomi… Natalya just ran off because who could blame her?
The new group of NXT call-ups won the match and it was a pretty good first showing as a unit. They even got a new name out of the appearance as well. Ruby, Liv, and Sarah will be known as the “Riott Squad” which is nice. These three will bring the pain no matter if there is two t’s in Riott or not.
But why did WWE change Ruby Riott’s name? It looks like there was an issue with the “Ruby Riot” trademark. WWE has applied for the Ruby Riot trademark but it doesn’t look like they have ownership of it. The current trademark status is “RESPONDED STILL UNRESOLVED” and the estimated response deadline is 12/27/2017.
It looks like WWE decided to give up on it and just modify her name to Riott. If someone else owns the Riot name then it could have caused an issue for them when they decided to create her merchandise.
