Here are more details on Alberto Del Rio’s (Alberto Rodriguez) firing from WWE. One of the WWE performers noted that story going around was that Rodriguez “slapped the sh**” out of Cody Barbierri and Barberri ended up on the floor. As noted, Barberri works in WWE’s social media department. It was noted that the firing wasn’t necessarily for the slap but for how hard he slapped him.
The incident took place on the August 5th taping in Laredo. People who talked with Rodriguez after the incident said that he was told after his match with Jack Swagger that he was being suspended for a short time and would be back after SummerSlam. The belief is that Barbierri threatened to sue WWE and that left WWE with no choice but to fire Rodriguez.
Triple H was the one that made the call to Rodriguez and was reportedly furious. That explains why he retweeted the statement from the WWE twitter: “Del Rio is responsible for his own actions. If you’re angry at anyone, be angry at Alberto. There’s no excuse for a pro athlete not to conduct themselves in a professional manner.”
Wrestlers in WWE (at least some of them) have been sympathetic to Rodriguez and one of them said that Barbierri was a jerkoff and very arrogant but smart enough that his attitude flies under the radar of WWE management. Barbierri has had a reputation in the past year of talking down to wrestlers but he has the backing of Stephanie McMahon.
