Luke Harper recently spoke with Democrat & Chronicle to talk about various topics. Some fans might not know this, but Harper almost stopped wrestling full-time in 2011 while competing in Japan. He recalled telling his wife that this is it and that he can’t be away from her so they would have to figure something out. His wife was pregnant at the time.
“I was just going to wrestle locally, and I come back from the tour, make the decision, everything’s good, then WWE calls and says ‘Hey, we want you to come try out.’ So, literally, I was as far out as I’ve ever been in my life away from pro wrestling, and they instantly pulled me back in and it was back to it.”
It turns out that signing with WWE sparked his career once more, but he joined the company 32 years old, which is something WWE does not do on regular bases as they like to sign younger talents. When asked about joining WWE, he said that the way he learned did give him a foundation than if he didn’t.
“I’m glad I didn’t get to WWE until I did because I was more complete at 32 than I was at 25. It all happens for a reason, but if I tried to tell myself that at the time I would have said ‘Screw you.'”
Harper also discussed getting into wrestling, if there is a hometown cuse in WWE, and more. You can read the full interview here.
