There is a strong sentiment within WWE that Corey Graves should be a permanent fixture on main roster television commentary, regardless of Pat McAfee’s availability. According to a new report, many in the company feel Graves is too talented and passionate not to have a weekly presence on either Monday Night Raw or Friday Night SmackDown.
Graves, who has been with WWE since 2011 and a commentator since 2014, has been a staple of WWE programming for a decade. However, with the return of Pat McAfee to the Raw announce team, Graves has recently been featured more prominently on NXT. McAfee has been given time off and Graves has been filling in on Raw temporarily for the last 3 weeks.
The report from WrestleVotes highlights the high regard in which Graves is held backstage. “According to several within the WWE, there is a strong contingency to get Corey Graves on main roster television weekly regardless of who is or is not available,” the report stated. “While several understand the value that Pat McAfee brings to the company, many feel like Graves is way too good and way too passionate to not be on main roster television week in and week out.”
It was added, “while several understand the value that McAfee brings to the company, many feel like Graves is way too good and way too passionate to not be on main roster television week in and week out. We can’t confirm as of this moment if WWE has any interest in bringing back the old three-man booths for TV or not.”
Currently, the commentary team for Monday Night Raw consists of Michael Cole and McAfee, while Friday Night SmackDown features Wade Barrett and Joe Tessitore. With the internal support behind him, it remains to be seen how WWE will utilize Graves on the main roster moving forward.
