Marc Mero has called for his former wife, Sable, to be inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame, saying her contributions to the women’s division during the Attitude Era were significant enough to warrant recognition. Speaking on Insight with Chris Van Vliet, Mero was asked about a passage in his book in which he wrote that Sable deserves a Hall of Fame induction. He did not hesitate in standing by that view.
“She did something for the women’s division when they didn’t really have a women’s division so much back then at all,” Mero said. “She brought eyes to the channels. The ratings and everything were very high because of her.”
Mero said he believes Sable’s absence from the Hall of Fame is not connected to the lawsuit she filed against WWE in 1999, noting that she returned to the company after the legal dispute was settled. “I don’t think it has to do with that, because remember, she went back after she sued,” Mero said.
Instead, Mero attributed her absence to the private life she has chosen since marrying Brock Lesnar. “She just stays out of the spotlight, and that’s what they chose,” Mero said. “She doesn’t do wrestling conventions, and I don’t think she’s ever at Raw or SmackDown with Brock. But that’s just what they choose, and you got to respect that.”
Mero also noted that the two remain connected through their daughter Mariah and their granddaughter Sophia, and said he holds no animosity. “My life couldn’t be better,” Mero said. “I wish them the best.”
Sable, whose real name is Rena Greek, was one of the most visible women in WWE during the late 1990s. Her Playboy covers and television presence made her one of the era’s most recognizable personalities. She was released by WWE in 1999, filed a lawsuit alleging harassment, and later returned in 2003 before departing again in 2004.
