WWE Hall of Famer and co-host of Busted Open Radio Mark Henry recently made some intriguing comments on the ‘hacker’ gimmick. The ‘hacker’ has been interrupting segments on SmackDown over the past few months, with glitches appearing sporadically during episodes of the FOX show.
Up until recently, the glitches had been exclusively part of the Otis, Mandy Rose, Sonya Deville and Dolph Ziggler storyline. This past Friday on SmackDown the ‘hacker’ appeared in a segment with clips of The Usos, John Morrison & The Miz, Sasha Banks & Bayley, Alexa Bliss & Nikki Cross and The New Day. This seems to indicate that the storyline will be more overarching than originally believed and not just constrained to the aforementioned Otis/Mandy storyline.
Mark Henry mentioned who he would want to be behind the ‘hacker’ gimmick on the latest episode of Busted Open. “I said it from the beginning that I was hoping that it would be CM Punk,”
Henry began. “That it would be his introduction back to pro wrestling. To be able to tell the story of ‘you want the truth? I want to give you the truth, and I’ve been around here watching and I’ve exposed the truth at some small levels? But now I’m going to share the truth on everything.'”
Henry would elaborate further, saying “then you can have him [CM Punk] just pipe-bomb the sh*t out of the wrestling business. Yeah. And, you know, nobody, nobody talks about AEW on WWE programming. They can point to, you know? I mean, could be the one that’s like ‘we did that already! I’m just telling the truth.’ You know, just do stuff like that. You can let that character be the lightning rod of hate if you will.”
Henry has some interesting ideas but Punk seems to be a very unlikely candidate to be the SmackDown hacker. As previously noted, WWE no longer mentions Punk on their shows anymore when they plug WWE Backstage on FS 1 and people in the company haven’t been to thrilled about him taking shots at the company. Dave Meltzer recently reported that Vince McMahon does not want to do business with Punk even after reports about Punk’s agent reaching out to WWE.
