WWE Hall of Famer Goldberg is set to make his return to WWE television on this coming Monday’s episode of Raw, where he is expected to begin a program with the new World Heavyweight Champion, GUNTHER. The news was first reported by Cory Hays at Bodyslam.net and later confirmed by PWInsider.
According to the reports, Goldberg will be in the house for the June 16th episode of Raw. PWInsider added that the plan is for him to appear regularly on the show in the weeks ahead, building towards WWE’s Atlanta weekend of shows in July. This lends significant credence to the idea that Goldberg’s long-awaited retirement match will take place at the Saturday Night’s Main Event premium live event in Atlanta on July 12.
The expected target for Goldberg’s return is GUNTHER, who just won the WWE World Heavyweight Championship from Jey Uso on this past Monday’s Raw. The report from Bodyslam.net’s “Viper” noted, “guessing he will be coming for Gunther, as expected months back.” The two behemoths had a memorable face-to-face confrontation at the Bad Blood event in 2024, but the interaction did not lead to a match at that time.
This return is the culmination of months of intense preparation for Goldberg. The 58-year-old has been training for his farewell match at the Black Diamond Martial Arts facility in Boerne, Texas. He has noted on his podcast that he has dealt with several injuries during his training, particularly with his shoulder, but has been working diligently to get into shape to deliver “the complete Goldberg experience one final time.”
PWInsider also reported that there was at least a pitch for Goldberg to make his return on this past Monday’s Raw, presumably to confront GUNTHER immediately after his title win, but that idea was ultimately discarded in favor of his return on June 16. With his return now imminent, it appears the stage is set for Goldberg’s final run to begin, with a World Heavyweight Championship match against “The Ring General” as the likely destination.
