Matt Hardy Addresses The Hardy Boyz Future After WWE Title Loss

The Hardy Boyz’s reign as NXT Tag Team Champions came to an end at the Halloween Havoc Premium Live Event. Matt and Jeff Hardy lost the titles to the challenging team, DarkState, in a rematch from the NXT vs TNA Showdown event. The Hardys had captured the championships from DarkState just weeks prior, on October 7 in Orlando, Florida, during a Winners Take All match. Their reign lasted less than three weeks. During the Halloween Havoc match, Matt and Jeff embraced their “Broken” personas, with Matt appearing as Broken Matt and Jeff as Brother Nero.

The match featured chaotic elements and weapons, fitting their unique style. Jeff Hardy also paid tribute to the late Bray Wyatt, who passed away in August 2023, by wearing Wyatt-themed face paint. Despite their efforts, DarkState emerged victorious, reclaiming the NXT Tag Team Championships and becoming two-time titleholders.

Following the loss, Matt Hardy took to his X (formerly Twitter) account to address the outcome and thank the fans in Arizona. “Thank you for having our back tonight at @WWENXT #HalloweenHavoc, Arizona! You guys & gals were WONDERFUL!” Hardy wrote. “We’re so sorry we weren’t able to retain the #WWENXT Tag Titles. The State of Dark swarm was relentless & never-ending tonight”.

He noted that their careers are not finished despite the setback. “Our journey is nowhere near over, myself & Brother Nero have SO much left to do,” he added. Hardy also acknowledged the tribute paid during the match. “Very happy we could pay homage to Bray tonight – We love you & miss you, Windham”.

Following their victory at Halloween Havoc, DarkState begins their second reign as NXT Tag Team Champions. It’s unclear whether The Hardyz will appear on future episodes of NXT.
