Over the last week, Matt Hardy has done various interviews as well as been active on social media regarding his exit from WWE and joining AEW.
The reason for Hardy deciding to let his contract expire on March 1st with WWE was not due to the lack of money the company was willing to offer him. Instead, it came down to the creative direction of his character and role on WWE television.
Hardy has previously talked about Vince McMahon not understanding his Broken character despite the company doing a version of it, Woken, on television for a short period of time before making the call to put him back with his brother, Jeff.
While they have their differences, Hardy has spoken highly of the company and the way that they treated him during his final days there.
Hardy responded to a fan on Twitter where he gave props to the WWE Chairman and CEO. He wrote the following:
“Yes. I have great respect for Vince & will always be grateful for the opportunities he gave me. I had to leave because we didn’t share the same visions for my future. My decision to leave was ultimately based on business & to ensure my own happiness going forward.”
