Matt Hardy shared his thoughts on John Cena’s ongoing retirement tour and his recent interactions on The Extreme Life of Matt Hardy. While Hardy praised the emotional resonance of Cena’s current run, he took issue with a specific booking decision involving Brock Lesnar.
Hardy said: “The one thing that really, kind of, the thing that I wasn’t a huge fan of was the Brock thing, just him going out and getting dominated… I think he probably wants to do that. But, like, Brock is not a guy that really needs it, and there’s no payoff to it. There’s no there’s no there’s no scenario where that makes anybody feel anything. Because me, I’m a guy who thinks about pro wrestling in terms of emotions… What they’re doing with Cena right now is pitch perfect, I think, because it really is looping in to everyone’s feels and everyone’s emotions… And I can tell it to like you feel John is coming towards the end, but he is being his most, most genuine, most authentic self, and he feels very real.”
Hardy also discussed how he would book Cena’s upcoming match against Dominik Mysterio at Survivor Series. Hardy suggested that Cena should not lose the Intercontinental Championship to Mysterio, but rather hold it until his final match.
Hardy stated: “I would ride out his Intercontinental Title reign until his final match… I think you could have him go out and bust his ass and make Dom look like a million bucks. Make it almost look like he escapes Dom. In some ways, I think Dom could go into this match, and John could retain the title, but Dom could come out as the bigger star… I think there’s something very intriguing if he goes into his last match as the Intercontinental Champion and he’s up against some monster, and there is that question like, Does John lose the Intercontinental title in this match, in his final match, or does he win and retire as [Intercontinental] champion.”
