Matt Lyda, the original co-host of The Undertaker’s Six Feet Under podcast, says he holds no bitterness about being removed from the show and still communicates with Mark Callaway, pushing back against the perception among some fans that he is resentful toward the current direction of the program.
“I am not bitter. I am not upset with them at all,” Lyda said on the Maven Huffman podcast. “Just a couple weeks ago I was talking to Taker. It was his birthday and I reached out to him. I said, ‘Hey, miss hanging out, miss seeing you.’ He goes, ‘Me too, man.'”
He said what he does feel is envy for the caliber of guests Six Feet Under has had access to since adding a WWE partnership.
“I’m jealous of the guests that they have on the show right now. I miss sitting down talking wrestling with my friend. I would have loved to have interviewed Shawn Michaels. Dear God, man.”
Lyda was also direct in his defense of Michelle McCool, who replaced him as co-host and has faced criticism from a portion of the audience online.
“She opened up her home to me. I played with their kids. A mom is not gonna let somebody just play with their kids. I broke bread with these people. She cooked meals for me. She has been nothing but a phenomenal person to me and to my wife. I will never sit here and say anything negative about Michelle McCool.”
He said he does not want to be used as a vehicle for fans to direct hate at McCool, and expressed the hope that she does not hold any negative feelings toward him because of the comments.
“I don’t want people making negative comments to her and going, ‘I wish I had Matt.’ I don’t want that. And if that is how she feels, I’m very sorry. I hope that’s not how she feels. I don’t feel that way. I’m very grateful for both of them. It was a podcast. I’ve moved on.”
He also pushed back on any perception that Callaway’s decision to move on from their partnership reflects poorly on either of them.
“53, 54 episodes with The Undertaker. Pretty cool, right?”
Six Feet Under grew approximately 700,000 subscribers in the span of roughly one year between February 2024 and March 2025 while Lyda was still co-hosting.
