Former WWE superstar Maven recently made a personal visit to the home of WWE Hall of Famer Rob Van Dam to apologize for a comment he made on a podcast that he instantly regretted. The entire interaction was documented for Maven’s YouTube channel, showing the two former rivals making amends.
The Comment
The issue began when Maven, during a podcast appearance, was asked to name the “smelliest wrestler” he had ever been in the ring with. In what he later described as a misguided attempt at a joke, he named Rob Van Dam. The comment quickly made the rounds on social media, leading to a response from RVD’s wife, Katie Forbes, and eventually, this in-person apology.
“A while back, I said something I regretted instantly,” Maven explained in the opening of his video. “I came to apologize. I know I said some things that were taken the wrong way. I can make excuses all day long, but I’m a man that when you make a mistake, you apologize to someone to their face.”
The Apology
Maven was first greeted at the door by Forbes, to whom he apologized for any distress the comment caused. She then led him to RVD, where Maven explained his original intention. “I took the question wrong,” he told RVD. “I was trying to go in this direction, right here with the question,” he said.
RVD, who acknowledged Maven’s attempt at a joke, accepted the apology. “I well, okay, I appreciate that, dude. Yeah. No, no hard feelings,” he said.
RVD then joked about his wife’s reaction. “She was crying. She lost sleep for like, about a week,” he said with a laugh. Maven clarified the context of his original comment, explaining he remembered RVD using baby powder backstage and was trying to make a joke about that, not RVD’s actual hygiene. “I remember you used to take baby powder… and contrary to popular belief, I wasn’t staring at your cock… I was thinking maybe you were just on to something with the baby powder that that I wasn’t privy to. That’s where I was trying to go with it.”
Making Amends
Following the apology, the two shared a joint, with Maven noting it had been over 20 years since he had last partaken. RVD also took the opportunity to explain his long-standing advocacy for cannabis, a conscious decision he made early in his career to speak out against the dangers of cigarettes.
The rest of the video featured a tour of RVD and Katie Forbes’ unique home and a discussion about their new business venture, OnlyWrestlers.com, a subscription-based platform for wrestling personalities to connect with their fans.
