As the wrestling world prepares for John Cena’s final match at Saturday Night’s Main Event, speculation is running rampant regarding the outcome. While many fans hope to see the 17-time World Champion go out on top, former WWE star Maven believes the traditional wrestling philosophy should prevail.
Speaking on TMZ Inside The Ring, Maven gave his thoughts on the matchup between Cena and Gunther. He expressed a strong belief that the match will not be a clean, one-on-one contest, predicting outside involvement to further current storylines.
“I’m going to make a prediction, it will have interferences,” Maven said. “I have a feeling this is going to be the type of match where they insert a lot of different characters… They’re going to want to live forever. They’re going to want to be remembered for Cena’s last match… What better time to put other characters over? What better time to give other people a little bit of a stage, a little bit of a rub?”
When discussing the result, Maven pushed back against the idea that the winner doesn’t matter. He argued that for the good of the business, Gunther needs to defeat the retiring legend.
“I think Gunther has to win,” Maven stated. “He should. I mean, he should lose it. Go, raise Gunther’s hand. It’s just passing the torch. It’s literally just doing business, and it’s hard. Most wrestlers don’t want to do it because we have this belief that our gimmick is who we are.”
Maven also touched on the ongoing “masked man” storyline involving The Vision and CM Punk, suggesting it would be a “waste” if that angle didn’t intersect with such a high-profile event.
“It’d be a waste if he didn’t. It’d be an absolute waste if they did not utilize if, obviously, this is the storyline arc that you’re taking the show forward with. If he was important enough to show up at your last major Pay Per View and then a week later at Raw, obviously I would, if I was in the writing team, I would definitely have him show up.”
