Maxxine Dupri reflects on her first match with Becky Lynch. On the August 11 edition of WWE Raw, Maxxine Dupri competed in the first title match of her career, challenging Becky Lynch for the WWE Women’s Intercontinental Championship.
Dupri lost the match in quick fashion. Fast forward to October, where Dupri scored countout and disqualification victories over Lynch on Raw. Now, she’s in line for another shot at the Women’s Intercontinental Championship.
Dupri On Her First Title Match
Speaking with Chris Van Vliet for a new interview, Dupri reflected on her first match with ‘The Man’. “My first title match. And I was really excited to work Becky to feel her timing in the ring. And, of course, if you want to meet your hero, don’t meet Becky Lynch, obviously. And I came up short in that match. However, I felt like I gave her a little run for her money, and I’m facing her again on Monday, which I’m very excited for.”
Training In ‘The Dungeon’
Dupri also spoke about the work she has been putting in to prepare for her next encounter, crediting Natalya and TJ Wilson for their guidance.
“I’m feeling like since that match, we’ve been in the Dungeon, working on a lot of things that needed to be adjusted since then, and having Nattie and TJ in there with me, just really fine tuning, filming things, watching it back, seeing like what needs to be adjusted, has been really, really important to my growth.”
Since this interview was recorded, Dupri received another championship match on the October 20 episode of Raw, which Dupri won by disqualification after Lynch used the title belt as a weapon. The rivalry has continued, and on the November 3 edition of Raw, Lynch cut a promo warning Dupri that the next time they face off, “one wrong move will make it the last opportunity” in Dupri’s career. A date for their next title match has not yet been scheduled.
