Since her arrival in AEW, Mercedes Moné has established herself as “The CEO,” a persona she says is the complete fulfillment of what her former WWE character, “The Legit Boss” Sasha Banks, always strived to be. In a recent interview, Moné detailed the key differences between the two eras of her career.
Mercedes Moné On Fulfilling The Boss’s Dream
Speaking with CBS Sports, Moné articulated that her current character embodies the power and autonomy that her previous one never fully achieved. She highlighted having command over her own narrative and intellectual property as a defining factor of her new role in AEW.
“She wanted it all, but she never got to hold it all,” Moné said of Sasha Banks. “Mercedes Moné, the CEO, is everything ‘The Legit Boss’ wanted to be. She controls her life, narrative and intellectual property.”
The Road To All In Texas
Moné’s comments about control echo the real-life circumstances surrounding her departure from WWE in 2022, when she and her tag team partner walked out over creative differences. Since debuting for AEW earlier this year, she has been presented as one of the company’s top stars and is now on the verge of capturing championship gold.
This Saturday, July 13, Mercedes Moné will challenge Toni Storm for the AEW Women’s World Championship at the All In Texas pay-per-view. The two are scheduled for a final face-to-face confrontation on tonight’s go-home episode of AEW Dynamite.
