Becky Lynch has been on quite the run in WWE recently. After turning heel against Charlotte Flair, Lynch has become, arguably, the hottest star in WWE. Lynch has been calling herself “The Man” on WWE TV as of late. Much like two-time WWE Hall Of Famer Ric Flair used to during his heyday.
“The Irish Lasskicker” has impressed the likes of WWE Hall Of Famer Mick Foley. Speaking on the “Not Sam Wrestling” podcast recently, Foley compared Lynch’s innovation of “The Man” moniker to that of Stone Cold Steve Austin and his “Austin 3:16” gimmick:
“To me, it’s like an Austin 3:16 moment, but Becky Lynch is #TheMan,” Foley said. “She came up with the catchphrase. She didn’t use the hashtag, but I told her that she has to use it everywhere she goes, you are now ‘The Man.'”
Foley also enjoys the fact that Lynch is challenging gender formality by calling herself “The Man.” He thinks everyone will be more than happy to call Lynch “The Man” of WWE, and is onboard himself:
“It throws gender on its head, and women will be more than happy to say that Becky Lynch is The Man. I think men will gladly say that she is The Man,” Foley said. “It is a bigger statement. It somehow makes perfect sense. I am on board. I believe wholeheartedly that she is The Man.”
