Mick Foley Reveals He Auctioned His WWE Title Belt for Sabu: “Glad To Be That Guy”

WWE Hall of Famer Mick Foley recently appeared on “No-Contest Wrestling with O’Shea Jackson Jr & TJ Jefferson,” where he discussed his ongoing charitable work for the Cauliflower Alley Club, the profound personal significance of auctioning his WWE Championship belt for Sabu.

Foley highlighted his “shirt off my back auction” held during his one-man shows, where he auctions a flannel and a wrestling shirt each night. “The average price is about $500 and 100% of that goes to the Cauliflower Alley Club,” Foley stated. He praised the organization, led by President Brian Blair, as “the only one organization in the country whose main purpose is to help out wrestlers in need… They do really great work.”

Foley hopes his efforts, which have raised around $6,000 so far with a goal of $20,000, will also serve as “a nudge to some of the other guys who did well to maybe help out a little bit.” One of Foley’s most selfless acts involved his own WWE Championship belt, which carried the lineage of Steve Austin and The Rock. He recalled how, when the late Sabu faced mounting medical bills, he auctioned the iconic title.

“Sabu… had some real trouble with medical bills… Fumi Saito… asked if there was anything I could auction. I pulled out the belt,” Foley explained. Though it didn’t fetch its current market value due to a limited auction pool in Japan, Foley cherishes this act: “More than anything I did in the ring, I hope that’s the type of thing people remember… I don’t know if there’s another WWE champion who doesn’t have a belt, and I’m glad to be that guy.” He noted Sabu never forgot the gesture.
