Mickie James recently spoke with WWE.com to promote her upcoming NXT Women’s Title match with Asuka at NXT Takeover: Toronto on November 19th. During the interview, she was asked what it means to her to come back to the WWE and see where the women’s division is today. James left WWE in 2010. She explained that it’s incredible but admitted that she had kept an eye on the product since she left. James always hoped that the division would turn into what it is today. She said that she is grateful for being a part of the division now.
When asked about how the opportunity to come back to the WWE came about. James explained that she was at an airport in Orlando, Florida on our way to the UK where she has been wrestling at for the past month. WWE called her and asked if she was interested in facing Asuka. James had seen her work in Japan and NXT and thinks that she is an incredible talent. “It’s cool to see someone come up and make an impact,” James said. She plans on tearing the house down with Asuka at Takeover.
James thinks that Asuka is a fascinating character who has an amazing presence, which is something that you cannot teach a talent to have. James gave praise to Asuka for realizing that she wanted to compete in WWE despite having a successful career in Japan and not necessarily needing come to WWE. “I feel like she’s the complete package now, as a performer, artist, and wrestler,” James said.
