TNA World Champion Mike Santana has broken his silence on the swirling speculation about his future, but his message was clear: his eyes are on Slammiversary and nothing else.
Santana has been the subject of plenty of rumors and reports linking him to a potential move to WWE, particularly with word that he could become a free agent as soon as next month. Speaking with Justin Barrasso of Undisputed, the champion acknowledged the chatter while making it clear where his attention lies.
“I’ve heard the rumors. I’m defending the world title this Sunday in Boston at Slammiversary. That is my focus,” Santana said. “Literally all I’ve been thinking about and preparing for is this match against Nic Nemeth.”
For Santana, the timing makes his title defense against Nemeth all the more important, given the upheaval TNA has experienced in recent weeks.
“Nic Nemeth and me are going to go after it. Especially with all the transition and changes in TNA, this is the time for us to show what’s most important. It’s all about what happens in the ring,” he said. “I want people leaving talking about the show and how great it was. Slammiversary, that’s all I’m thinking about.”
As for everything being said about where he might end up, Santana is content to let it play out in due time. “Whatever happens after that happens after that,” he said. “My focus is Slammiversary.”
Santana defends the TNA World Championship against Nic Nemeth at Slammiversary on Sunday, June 28, at the Agganis Arena in Boston.
