Former AEW World Champion MJF has declared that simply being one of the best wrestlers in the world is no longer enough for his ambitions; he intends to be recognized as the undisputed greatest of all time. Maxwell Jacob Friedman has already achieved more than most performers do in a lifetime, yet he remains unsatisfied with his current standing in history.
In a recent interview with Sean Ross Sapp, Friedman opened up about his drive to be a “generational talent” who defines an era, rather than just participating in it.
“Now, when people think about professional wrestling in 2025, the names that come up, am I one of them? Yeah, no f*ing st. But that’s not enough for me. I need to go down as the greatest of all time,” Friedman asserted. “I need to go down as a generational talent, as a guy who led my generation for years to come. AEW had me in my 20s. They’re about to have me in my 30s.”
Friedman noted that while his resume is impressive, the hunger to win drives him more than the quality of his matches. He specifically cited his recent back-to-back losses to Mark Briscoe and Mistico as a turning point in his mindset.
“Have I accomplished more than anybody has in that period of time? Probably. But I’m not satiated. That was my biggest thing that I realized after the Mark Briscoe match. I just was not satiated. It’s not okay to just have a good outing. I need to win,” he explained.
Despite the losses, Friedman defended the quality of his work, boldly claiming that his recent double-header performance rivals anything in the history of the business.
“The guys that I looked up to when I got into this profession were true traveling champions, and their schedules were just as heinous,” he continued. “I think, dare I say, I feel like I put out a better performance in under a under 24 hour span in two different matches than anyone else in the history of the business. I’m willing to put my name on that between the Mistico match and the Mark Briscoe match. Am I happy about the results? No.”
Friedman will have a chance to reclaim his spot at the top of the mountain at Worlds End on December 27. He is set to compete in a four-way match for the AEW World Championship against Samoa Joe, “Hangman” Adam Page, and Swerve Strickland in Orlando, Florida.
