“Moana 2” Featuring The Rock Makes History After Disney+ Premiere

Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson had a massive hit on his hands with Disney’s “Moana 2” animated film. The movie came out in the United States on November 27, 2024, and did a billion dollars at the box office. It has also been a major hit on streaming.

It’s directed by David Derrick Jr., Jason Hand, and Dana Ledoux Miller and produced by Christina Chen and Yvett Merino. Auli‘i Cravalho and Rock star as Moana and Maui. It stars returning stars Rachel House (Moana’s Grandma, Tala), Temuera Morrison (Moana’s father, Chief Tui) and Nicole Scherzinger (Moana’s mother, Sina), Hualālai Chung, David Fane and Rose Matafeo as Moni, Kele and Loto.

Variety reports that after just five days on Disney+, it has become the streamer’s third-largest animated theatrical premiere of all time. The movie has drawn 27.3 million views

It’s also Walt Disney Animation’s biggest streaming launch since “Encanto.” The first movie has amassed 1.4 billion hours streamed.

The Rock is also working on a live-action adaptation of “Moana” in production with a July 2026 release. Both movies follow the smashing success of “Moana” in 2016.
