Here are some more details on the idea that was brought up in 2002 for Brock Lesnar to play a kick ass gay character. Brian Solomon was involved in the formation of the idea but the person who actually pitched the idea to the writing team was Aaron Feigenbaum. Feigenbaum was a writer for WWE magazine and was using the name Aaron Williams. The idea came from Dr. J Kober. Zehner and then Solomon and Feigenbaum tried to develop the idea.
The idea was pitched to lead writers Paul Heyman, Brian Gerwitz and Seth Mates. Heyman, who was not too receptive on the idea, would keep saying “What? You want to turn HIM gay?” every time the idea was pitched. Keep in mind that Lesnar had already made his debut when this was pitched so the audience already saw him as a badass. John Layfield (JBL) once laughed and told Feigenbaum, in a conversation about this idea, that he should “tell that to Brock.”
It’s doubtful that Lesnar would have like the idea and if WWE had gone with the storyline then it might have blown up in their face because Lesnar had made some anti-gay remarks in the media a few years earlier before he signed with WWE.
Here is an excerpt of what was included in the pitch to turn Brock into a kickass gay character:
“Of all the possible Superstars, it appears that Brock Lesnar may have the most potential to reach that number. He’s physically dominant, has impeccable credentials concerning believability, and because he is new and relatively unknown, his character can be crafted easily. His ascension could also raise the scores of other Superstars with whom he feuds. The following possible scenario to increase Brock’s ability to grow the industry is radical. It’s unprecedented and may appear crazy at first. There are risks involved, but if it works, it has Austin/McMahon like potential. The solution: Turn Brock Gay. Everything else about him stays the same. He’s pushed in a traditional babyface manner. He’s not the stereotypical Billy/Chuck character. He’s Brock. He continues to annihilate people. He’s just gay. It has to be presented as completely real, especially in the beginning”
