As noted earlier this week, Vince McMahon was not happy about the Survivor Series main event. It was clear to most watching that the match between Raw Women’s Champion Becky Lynch, NXT Women’s Champion Shayna Baszler, and SmackDown Women’s Champion Bayley fell flat and the fans did not react as if they were watching a main event of a big show.
The idea of the match was to put over Baszler and to help boost NXT but they also wanted to keep Lynch strong so they had Lynch take out Baszler after the match. Based on how the show closed, it would seem as if Baszler vs. Lynch is a match that will happen in the future.
The actual match had some awkward spots and the crowd wasn’t into it. Dave Meltzer noted in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter that Vince McMahon was mad as the match was happening. Meltzer noted that there was a story going around that Vince was so mad that he was telling the referee some high spots for them to do as the match was happening. That is just a rumor making the rounds but people in the company did confirm that he was mad and they felt he had every right to be. The people in the company who confirmed the story about Vince being mad denied to Meltzer that Vince was sending high spots to the referee.
The Chicago crowds are usually hot for most shows, which makes their reaction to the Survivor Series main event more disappointing for the wrestlers in the match. Lynch will have a chance to win over the doubters when she wrestles next month at the TLC pay-per-view. Her next big singles pay-per-view match appears to be happening in January at the Royal Rumble.
