As noted earlier, Sin Cara is the latest WWE star to ask for his release from the company.
There are no guarantees that his release will be granted. In fact, in the case of Mike Kanellis and Luke Harper, they are still with the company even after they publicly announced that they asked to be released.
Harper has a few months left on his deal but Kanellis signed a 5-year deal just a few months ago so WWE could keep him locked up for a long time.
In the case of Sin Cara, he signed a new deal in March of this year and that deal runs through the spring of 2022 so, unless Vince McMahon has a change of heart, he could be locked in with WWE for a long time. Sin Cara has been with the company since 2009 when he first signed a developmental deal as Hunico.
As we’ve written about in the past, there are other wrestlers in the company who want to leave. Some feel that there may be opportunities in New Japan Pro Wrestling or All Elite Wrestling. In Sin Cara’s case, he may be welcomed back in one of the promotions in Mexico in addition to potential interest with NJPW or AEW. For what it’s worth, the folks at AEW have stated that they are being very selective with who they sign so it’s not a lock that they would be interested in Sin Cara.
Following last week’s Saudi Arabia travel debacle, some wrestlers have said privately that they plan on leaving the company when their contracts expire. Most have said the opposite and plan on staying because they are making pretty good money or will be making very good money when contract negotiations come up. But it will be interesting who ends up leaving in 2020.
Ryback recently said on his podcast that Rusev has been in contract talks with WWE and The Revival’s deals are up in a few months.
In Rusev’s case, he recently said that he wants to go back to Saudi Arabia so perhaps, this is a sign that he has signed a new deal or plans on signing a new deal with WWE. Rusev is currently in a top storyline with real-life wife Lana and Bobby Lashley. Despite what some may think, a WWE source told me that the storyline is not meant to embarrass Rusev.
