Some WWE talent exploring options outside of WWE if Vince McMahon returns full-time to handle creative

Last month, WrestlingNews.co reported about talent and staff expecting releases after WrestleMania as the company looks to cut back on expenses during WrestleMania week ahead of the sale.

We noted that one person who works behind the scenes was under the belief that releases (talent, backstage, office staff, or all three departments) were expected as soon as this month. That was the chatter among those we spoke with last month. Our report stated that at least one person has been preparing for life outside of WWE. Again, we don’t have confirmation that releases are coming but there are people in the company who believe that people will be cut, especially those that have not been used on TV in a meaningful role in recent weeks.

In addition to the expected cuts because of the sale, there is also the concern about Vince McMahon getting more involved with creative. Despite Nick Khan and Triple H and Vince himself indicating that Vince would only oversee the big picture stuff, Vince was said to be heavily involved in the creative last night at Raw.

It was reported today by multiple outlets that changes made by Vince McMahon over the weekend and at Raw have led to a drop in morale and Fightful Select reported today that “multiple wrestlers” are exploring their options in the event that Vince McMahon was steadily involved. Fightful also stated that “at least two talent, including one near the top of the card” has said that they would likely request their release if “this is a trend moving forward.”

While there were a lot of changes last night and some during WrestleMania, keep in mind that Vince McMahon was in town because it’s the biggest weekend in the history of the company. If Vince is not backstage on SmackDown or Raw next week then it’s less likely to see so many rewrites and chaos behind-the-scenes. We’ll know more in a few days when SmackDown heads to Portland, Oregon.
