Although cases of COVID-19 are down in the United States, it’s still impacting pro wrestling. On Wednesday, AEW World Heavyweight Champion “Hangman” Adam Page had to miss Dynamite as he tested positive for the virus. In NJPW, Will Ospreay was pulled from Sunday’s NJPW event due to it.
Dave Meltzer noted on today’s edition of Wrestling Observer Radio that a few WWE stars recently tested positive for the virus although no names were mentioned. The company hasn’t announced any positive cases or any talent.
“There’s actually a few WWE people who were out due to COVID in the last couple of weeks. At least a couple.”
WWE is no longer actively testing its talent for COVID-19, but talent is still checking themselves when they have symptoms. When wrestlers test positive for the virus, they’re pulled from the road to minimize the spread.
When Page had to miss AEW Dynamite, it led to changes being made to the show. There was supposed to be an angle to make the CM Punk vs. Page match for the AEW World Heavyweight Title at Double or Nothing next month official. Instead, Punk did a solo promo segment after the announcement was made.
