MVP Picks Lita Over Trish Stratus As The Bigger Women’s Legend, Says Lita Was Ahead Of Her Time

MVP said Trish Stratus was “not very good” in her early WWE matches and credited Molly Holly as the unsung hero who trained her before she became one of the greatest women’s champions of all time, while also picking Lita over Trish as the bigger women’s legend in a debate on the Marking Out with MVP and Dwayne Swayze podcast.

“Early Matches With Trish Were Not Good”

MVP said he was backstage at a WWE show early in Trish Stratus’ career and watched her working with Molly Holly before Trish had become a star.

“I remember being at a WWE show backstage early, before Trish blew up, when she was just starting out, but she wasn’t very good yet,” MVP said. “And I remember they had her working with Molly Holly.”

MVP called Molly Holly “an unsung hero” in the conversation about women’s wrestling and said she deserves more credit for Trish’s development.

“Molly Holly is an unsung hero, because Molly was the one that was working with Trish, getting Trish up to speed,” MVP said. “Early matches with Trish were not good. Trish went on to become arguably the greatest Women’s Champion of all time, but Molly Holly was the one getting her there.”

MVP noted that Molly Holly is now a producer with WWE and praised her ring ability. “Boy, does she know how to wrestle,” he said. “When you talk about women’s wrestlers that were ahead of their time in this conversation, Molly Holly is an unsung hero.”

MVP Picks Lita Over Trish

In the podcast’s hot take segment, co-host Dwayne Swayze argued that Lita was the bigger women’s legend because she brought a high-risk athletic style that felt like the men’s division, influenced the modern era of women’s wrestling, and represented a cultural movement where fans dressed like her and adopted her style.

MVP initially leaned toward Trish, calling her “a Canadian national treasure” and noting that she was a seven-time Women’s Champion with over a year-long title reign compared to Lita’s four title reigns. He also acknowledged that the office was “clearly behind Trish” in cementing her as a star.

“The office was clearly behind Trish, giving her that platform, and putting her in that position,” MVP said. “But you got to carry that though. And she did. She stepped up and she became that.”

However, after hearing Swayze’s argument about Lita’s lasting influence on women’s wrestling, MVP changed his pick.

“For what Lita did in terms of being ahead of her time for women’s wrestling, the way you framed it up, yeah,” MVP said. “You would think Trish Stratus, because of the stratosphere that she occupied. But yeah, for the way you framed it up, Lita.”

MVP said he knows both women personally and called them “both super cool.”
