MVP Questions Why Brock Lesnar Ended The Undertaker’s Historic WrestleMania Streak

AEW’s MVP recently shared his strong personal opinion that The Undertaker should have retained his undefeated WrestleMania streak, and also offered pointed criticism of wrestlers who react negatively to being asked to lose matches. These insights came during a discussion on how wrestlers handle losses on the “Marking Out with MVP and Dwayne Swayze” podcast.

When the topic of Brock Lesnar ending The Undertaker’s streak at WrestleMania 30 arose, MVP was clear on his view, despite not knowing the internal reasoning. “I don’t know why that happened… It was my personal opinion that if anybody deserved to have a streak not be broken, it was The Undertaker for everything he’s done for that company,” MVP stated, referencing Undertaker working through significant injuries like a crushed orbital bone while wearing a mask. He acknowledged that The Undertaker, as a professional, went through with the decision, noting “anybody could have said, ‘No, I’m not doing it.’ Taker is definitely one that could have done that.”

This led to a broader discussion about wrestlers’ attitudes towards losing. MVP described some performers who “will have a little temper tantrum and, you know, get upset and, or, as we say, they have the Boo Boo face.” He recounted an instance with an unnamed wrestler: “There’s one guy. I like him a lot, so I won’t say his name, but I was really disappointed in how he reacted when he found out he had to lose a match… he was really upset that, you know, he had to lose. And I was like, ‘Dude, this is pro wrestling, like we all have to lose at some point, it’s your job to lose.’”

MVP explained that while some top-tier stars with enough “cachet” or “gravitas” like Brock Lesnar, The Undertaker, or Steve Austin might be able to refuse a loss, for most, it’s about professionalism. He referenced stories of wrestlers like Jeff Jarrett reportedly negotiating a higher payday to lose to Chyna, stating, “Sometimes it takes more money.”

He concluded, “At the end of the day, we all have a job… It’s a matter of professionalism. You want to have a boo boo face, and you want to complain and have a tantrum and okay, you’re not being a pro. There’s lots of times that professionals feel like I shouldn’t lose this match, but this is what the boss wants, and this is how the game goes.”
