Netflix has renewed “GLOW” for a third season.
The popular show based on the 1980’s all-women’s wrestling promotion premiered it’s second season two months ago Netflix executives are happy with the buzz around the show. “I love the show. We’d be really thrilled to make more, but I don’t have anything to share with you just yet,” Netflix original-programming head Cindy Holland told Variety before word got out about the renewal for season 3.
Although the show is not among the most watched of its original programs, the belief is that Netflix values the show because of its status as an awards contender. “GLOW” was nominated for eight Primetime Emmy Awards, including outstanding comedy series.
The show is loosely based on the 1980’s wrestling promotion and much of the stories told are fiction but they’ve done a nice balancing act to please both the wrestling and non-wrestling fans. “Orange is the New Black” creator Jenji Kohan, Tara Herrmann and Mark Burley are executive producers.
